Meet the crew of Star Trek

The original Star Trek series, which first aired in 1966, featured a diverse crew aboard the USS Enterprise. The main characters were: Captain James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner, was the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise. He was a skilled leader and a daring adventurer. Mr. Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, was the ship's science officer and first officer. He was a half-Vulcan, half-human and was known for his logical, unemotional nature. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, played by DeForest Kelley, was the ship's chief medical officer. He was often at odds with Mr. Spock, but he and Captain Kirk were good friends. Lieutenant Uhura, played by Nichelle Nichols, was the ship's communications officer. She was responsible for managing all of the Enterprise's communications and was also a skilled linguist. Lieutenant Sulu, played by George Takei, was the ship's helmsman. He was responsible for piloting the ship and was known for his expertise in botany and fencing. Ensign Pavel Chekov, played by Walter Koenig, was the ship's navigator. He was a Russian-born officer and was known for his enthusiasm and optimism. Mr. Scott, or "Scotty", played by James Doohan, was the ship's chief engineer. He was responsible for maintaining the Enterprise's engines and systems and was known for his Scottish accent and his catchphrase, "I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain!"

Yeoman Janice Rand, played by Grace Lee Whitney, was a yeoman assigned to Captain Kirk's personal service. She primarily appeared in the first season and occasionally in later episodes.

Nurse Christine Chapel, played by Majel Barrett, was the ship's chief nurse and also worked as a assistant to Dr. McCoy.She was a recurring character but not a part of the main cast.

The original Star Trek series also featured a number of guest stars and recurring characters, many of whom went on to become fan favorites. Some of these characters include:

• Mr. Sarek, played by Mark Lenard, was Spock's father and a prominent Vulcan diplomat.

• The Klingons, a warrior race that was often at odds with the crew of the Enterprise.

• The Romulans, a race of humanoids from the planet Romulus who were also enemies of the Federation.

The crew of the USS Enterprise went on a five year mission exploring the galaxy with many episodes featuring different alien species and exploring the challenges the crew and ship faced.

Nichelle Nichols	Nyota Uhura	Communications Officer	Lieutenant	Nyota Uhura is the communication officer on the USS Enterprise. She is a skilled bridge officer who is capable of taking control of the helm, navigation, and science stations as needed. Uhura is also a talented singer and often performs for her fellow crew members, sometimes with accompaniment from Spock on the Vulcan lyre.
