Star Trek is an American science fiction TV show about the adventures of the USS Enterprise starship and its crew. It was created by Gene Roddenberry and is sometimes referred to as "Star Trek: The Original Series." 

The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy and follows the adventures of the starship Enterprise, which is captained by James T. Kirk (played by William Shatner) and has a crew that includes First Officer and Science Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Chief Medical Officer Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley). The show takes place around the years 2266-2269. In the opening credits of each episode, Shatner provides a voice-over introduction that describes the starship's mission

The three main characters of the show were Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Kirk was known for his passion, aggression, and sly sense of humor. Spock was known for his cool logic. McCoy was known for his sardonic, emotional, and sometimes illogical behavior, but he was always compassionate. In many stories, the three characters would clash, with Kirk having to make a difficult decision while Spock advocated for the logical option and McCoy, nicknamed "Bones" by Kirk, argued for the course of action that would cause the least harm. The dynamic between McCoy and Spock, which included a lot of arguing, was popular with viewers and hinted at the deep affection and respect the two characters had for each other.
